The Medicare Safety Net provides larger Medicare rebates for patients whose out of pocket expenses for medicare costs have exceeded the threshold set by Medicare. Out of pocket expenses incurred at our practice contribute towards this threshold and once the threshold has been reached Medicare provides larger rebates for the patient, which result in making your out of pocket expenses much less. The Medicare Safety Net provides a rebate of 80% rebate of out of pocket expenses for out of hospital costs in a calendar year, once the relevant threshold has been reached.
Limits and eligibility criteria apply – please refer to Medicare Australia for further information.
Uninsured patients can access private surgical care with less out of pocket expenses as an “intermediate patient”.
